Toyouke Okami, the god of the outer shrine of Ise Grand Shrine, was originally the goddess of grain that was enshrined in Tamba. She moves to Ise Grand Shrine as the deity to serve the lonely Amaterasu Omikami. According to the Kojiki, there is a legend which said during the era of Emperor Sujin, a local power called Tsuchigumo, Kuga Mimino Mikasa, was very influential in Tanba Province, and he was conquered by Emperor Kaga’s son, Hikoimasu Miko. Tamba stone is a yellowish gray color and is a high-quality stone that is not distributed in large quantities. It is a volcanic stone produced by volcanic activity during the late Cretaceous period, when the Japanese archipelago was connected to the continent. It is collected from the Arima Group and has plate-like joints like Suwa Teppei, and it peels off thinly. In 2006, a new species of dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous period was discovered in Tamba, and it became a hot topic of conversation. It is called Tamba Dragon, and its official name is “Tambatitanis amicitiae,” which means that Tamba has been a land where dinosaurs existed since ancient times.
