Jindai Cedar

A very rare and valuable cedar wood that has been buried in volcanic ash for hundreds of years without rotting. After oil and moisture have been removed this wood takes on various colors (tinged with brown, bluish-back ect) and it has a characteristic unique texture. This beauty is truly a mystery of nature that cannot be replicated artificially. In addition, as timber, this wood is very beautiful, has a fine wood grain and shines when polished.

Some beautiful and ling-lived trees are sold for millions of yen.

The raw wood appears yellowish the moment it is split and turn bluish and after one month in become grayish green.
